President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by the Minister of Defense and Support of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Aziz Nasirzadeh, on February 6.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state recalled his recent telephone conversation with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, noting that high-level contacts provide excellent opportunities for discussing bilateral agenda items. President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the successful official visit of Masoud Pezeshkian to Azerbaijan last year, stating that relations have continued to develop significantly since that visit.
Addressing regional security, the head of state emphasized that peace has been established in the South Caucasus through Azerbaijan's initiative. He expressed confidence that this stability is of great importance for Iran, which shares borders with both Azerbaijan and Armenia. "We want peace throughout the world, no bloodshed, and no wars," President Ilham Aliyev said, noting that Azerbaijan serves as a model for the transition from war to peace. He further stated that Azerbaijan is concerned about current regional tensions and is ready to provide support to alleviate these pressures.
Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh conveyed the greetings of President Masoud Pezeshkian to the Azerbaijani leader. The guest noted that his visit was conducted under the instructions of the Iranian President, who maintains a high level of interest in Azerbaijan. He also mentioned that the Iranian President recalls his visits to Azerbaijan, including Khankendi, with great satisfaction. President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greetings and asked the minister to convey his own regards to the Iranian head of state.
During the conversation, the parties hailed the development of bilateral relations based on the principles of friendship, brotherhood, and good neighborliness. They also exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation in the defense sector. This meeting takes place amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen ties between Baku and Tehran, focusing on regional stability, transport corridors, and security cooperation in the South Caucasus following Azerbaijan's full restoration of its territorial integrity.
