President Ilham Aliyev awards Gurban Gurbanov with 'Dostluq' Order

President Ilham Aliyev received Gurban Gurbanov, a prominent public and political figure from the Republic of Dagestan of the Russian Federation, on June 19 and presented him with the "Dostluq" (Friendship) Order.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the significance of the award during the meeting. Addressing Gurban Gurbanov, the head of state extended his congratulations on his recent jubilee and emphasized the deep-rooted ties between their families.

“Your family has rightfully earned great respect both in Azerbaijan and in Dagestan. I always remember the unforgettable meetings with your father, the late Said Jamalovich. We well remember the friendship between Said Jamalovich and the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev. Their close, sincere relationship was an example of friendship and brotherhood,” the President stated.

The meeting also touched upon the historical legacy of Aziz Aliyev, the President’s grandfather, who led the Dagestan Republic during the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War. President Aliyev noted that the memory of Aziz Aliyev is deeply cherished in Dagestan, symbolizing the enduring historical and cultural bonds between the two regions.

Gurban Gurbanov expressed his gratitude for the high state award, noting that the sincere friendship between Heydar Aliyev and his father, Said Jamalovich, holds historical significance for the strengthening of relations between Azerbaijan, Russia, and Dagestan. He further highlighted the deep respect held in Dagestan for the memory of Aziz Aliyev, noting the monuments and streets named in his honor in Makhachkala.

It is worth noting that President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on June 1 awarding Gurban Gurbanov the "Dostluq" Order in recognition of his contributions to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the Republic of Dagestan.
