Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on European nations to play a more active role in encouraging the United States to reach an agreement, stating that diplomacy remains the best path for resolving disputes.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Iranian leader made these remarks during a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron. Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran remains ready to continue negotiations within the framework of international regulations and believes Europe can exert the necessary influence to bring Washington toward a compatible position in the process.
The President noted that despite certain agreements reached at the expert level, the final accord is being hindered by what he described as excessive demands from the U.S. side and a lack of political will. He further stressed that approaches based on threats and the use of military force do not solve problems but rather complicate them further. Additionally, Pezeshkian highlighted that ensuring safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is a priority for Iran, warning that any threat to this waterway could have a serious impact on global trade.
The dialogue comes at a critical juncture for international diplomacy involving Iran and Western powers. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global energy supplies, frequently serves as a focal point for geopolitical tensions, with approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passing through the passage daily. This diplomatic outreach to France reflects Iran's ongoing strategy to engage European intermediaries to mitigate the impact of sanctions and navigate the complex relationship with the administration of US President Donald Trump.
