The United States is enhancing its military posture and intelligence capabilities to address growing threats in the Middle East, according to statements made by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that during a press conference, Hegseth emphasized that the U.S. has identified and targeted two critical components of Iran's infrastructure: its remaining energy production facilities and broader industrial sectors. "We are reloading with more power and better intelligence than ever before," the Secretary stated, adding that while Washington prefers to avoid escalation, the military is prepared to act on the orders of US President Donald Trump.
Addressing Tehran's claims of regional dominance, Hegseth dismissed the notion that Iran maintains authority over strategic maritime routes. "You clearly like to say that Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz. But you have no real information about the Navy or the territory; you cannot control anything. Threatening ships legally passing through international waters by firing missiles and drones is not control. That is piracy; it is terrorism," Hegseth added, noting that a blockade remains the most measured option currently on the table.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most vital oil transit chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes daily. Tensions in the region have historically impacted global energy markets, and the U.S. Fifth Fleet, headquartered in Bahrain, maintains a constant presence in the area to ensure the freedom of navigation and the security of international trade routes against asymmetric threats.
