Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has emphasized the strategic importance of railway connections through Azerbaijan, Russia, and Georgia for expanding trade and economic turnover between Armenia and Kazakhstan. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, the statement was made during a meeting in Yerevan with Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev.
During the discussions, Pashinyan noted that high-level mutual visits serve as a catalyst for multi-faceted cooperation. He specifically highlighted that the existing and potential rail infrastructure passing through Azerbaijan provides a significant impetus for regional economic integration. Foreign Minister Kosherbayev echoed these sentiments, expressing confidence that these transport corridors will substantially enhance economic ties and stressed the strategic necessity of unblocking regional communication routes.
The meeting also focused on Kazakhstan's support for the TRIPP project, with Kosherbayev stating that Astana is keen on diversifying regional trade-economic links. Furthermore, the officials discussed cooperation in infrastructure, construction, agriculture, technology, and tourism. The upcoming launch of direct flights between Armenia and Kazakhstan was identified as a key step in strengthening bilateral relations.
The restoration of regional transport links remains a central component of broader peace and stability efforts in the South Caucasus. Following the 2020 conflict, the unblocking of economic and transport communications has been a primary topic of trilateral and bilateral negotiations. The integration of Azerbaijan's transport network into regional corridors is expected to transform the region into a vital transit hub between Central Asia and Europe, facilitating increased trade volumes and economic growth for all participating nations.
