Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has described his July 27 telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin as successful.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Armenian media, Pashinyan shared details of the discussion with journalists today.
"We (President Putin and I - ed.) reached a common understanding on a number of issues, namely that Armenia has a legitimate right to form alternatives. I told the Russian President that we have announced this path and will remain committed to it, especially now, at a time when the Armenian people have voted for it. As I said during the pre-election period, I cannot imagine a situation where Armenia would be left without alternatives as a result of our policy," he stated.
Pashinyan emphasized that the country must always have alternatives in all matters, declaring that "the era of having no alternatives has ended."
The discussion highlights the ongoing diplomatic maneuvering in the South Caucasus, where Armenia is attempting to balance its traditional security ties with Russia while simultaneously seeking to diversify its foreign policy and engage with other international partners. This shift in rhetoric reflects Yerevan's broader efforts to redefine its strategic autonomy in the region.
