President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree appointing Elchin Nariman oglu Huseynli as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Italian Republic.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state also signed a separate decree recalling Elchin Huseynli from his previous post as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to India, as well as to the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the Kingdom of Bhutan, the Republic of Maldives, Nepal, and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
This diplomatic appointment is viewed as a strategic move to further strengthen the robust bilateral relations between Baku and Rome. Italy remains one of Azerbaijan's most significant economic and political partners in Europe, particularly in the energy sector, serving as a key destination for Azerbaijani natural gas exports via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). The appointment of a seasoned diplomat like Huseynli, who brings extensive experience from his tenure in South Asia, underscores the importance Azerbaijan places on maintaining high-level diplomatic engagement with Italy.
