A new director has been appointed to the J. Jabbarli Irevan State Azerbaijan Drama Theatre.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Minister of Culture Adil Karimli has signed an order appointing Hajibaba Ismayil oglu Mammadov as the new director of the theatre.
Prior to this appointment, Mammadov served as the deputy director of the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theatre, bringing significant administrative experience to his new role. He succeeds Iftikhar Piriyev, who was relieved of his duties last year upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.
The Irevan State Azerbaijan Drama Theatre holds a unique place in the cultural landscape of Azerbaijan. Originally established in the city of Irevan (Yerevan) in 1882, the theatre has preserved the rich traditions of Azerbaijani theatrical art despite the forced displacement of its troupe following the expulsion of Azerbaijanis from their historical lands in Armenia. Today, the theatre continues to operate in Baku, serving as a vital institution for the preservation and promotion of national cultural identity and heritage.
