New legal framework proposed for teacher attire in Azerbaijan.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Committee on Science and Education of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) has reviewed proposed amendments to the Law on General Education. The draft legislation aims to establish a legal basis for dress code requirements for educators in public general education institutions, mirroring existing regulations already in place for students.

Officials noted that formalizing these requirements is intended to strengthen the professional environment and organizational culture within public schools. Educators serve as role models for students not only through their knowledge but also through their behavior, communication style, and professional appearance. A neat, simple, and business-appropriate dress code is considered a key factor in the effective organization of pedagogical activities, helping to maintain focus during lessons and supporting classroom management.

The introduction of a unified professional approach to attire is expected to contribute significantly to the development of corporate governance culture in schools. Much like school uniforms foster a sense of identity and belonging for students, professional attire for teachers serves as a vital component of a school's institutional values and professional standards. This initiative is designed to enhance the public reputation of schools, increase parental trust, and foster a disciplined, orderly, and professional educational environment.

The proposed legislative changes extend beyond mere regulation of clothing. They are part of a broader, comprehensive institutional effort to strengthen unified management approaches, improve internal school discipline, and create more efficient conditions for all participants in the educational process. By promoting a culture of mutual responsibility and respect, these measures aim to support the sustainable development of a modern, safe, and high-quality educational system in Azerbaijan.
