The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has adopted a draft resolution on the re-formation of the Central Election Commission (CEC). During a plenary session held in Baku, lawmakers voted to approve the new composition of the commission, which includes representatives from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, minority political parties, and independent members.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the document was discussed during the parliament's plenary session today. According to the resolution on the appointment of members and substitute members of the Central Election Commission, the confirmed members include: Sevinc Abdullayeva, Fuad Cavadov, Bakhsheyish Asgarov, Naila Asgarova, Tofig Hasanov, Elchin Khalafov, Ramiz Ibrahimov, Rovzat Gasimov, Almas Gahramanli, Etibar Guliyev, Elmar Mammadov, Ilham Mammadov, Arifa Mukhtarova, Gabil Orujov, Huseyn Pashayev, Mazahir Panahov, Mikayil Rahimov, and Ilkin Shahbazov. The substitute members appointed are Aysel Jalilova, Zuriya Garayeva, and Elnara Mustafayeva.
In Azerbaijan, the Central Election Commission is the supreme body responsible for the organization and conduct of presidential, parliamentary, and municipal elections, as well as national referendums. Under the current legislation, the term of office for all election commissions in the country is five years. The previous composition of the CEC was established on April 27, 2021, following a decision by the Milli Majlis. This renewal ensures the continued functionality and legal compliance of the electoral process within the Republic of Azerbaijan.
