Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, has warned Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that his current foreign policy trajectory is jeopardizing Yerevan's relations with Moscow and could lead to severe consequences for the country.
According to a report by RIA Novosti, cited by the Operative Information Center-OMM, Medvedev stated that Pashinyan is striking a serious blow to Armenia's relations with Russia, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). "It seems he thinks we are fools. However, he is making a very serious mistake and leading his country in an extremely dangerous direction," Medvedev said. He warned that Armenia risks losing access to the Russian market and long-standing economic ties within the EAEU, which could force Yerevan to purchase Russian gas at much higher European tariffs.
Tensions between Moscow and Yerevan have escalated significantly in recent years, particularly following Armenia's decision to freeze its participation in the Moscow-led CSTO. On July 16, 2025, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a press conference that his country's complete withdrawal from the security bloc is a more realistic scenario than restoring its active membership, signaling a deeper pivot toward Western security frameworks.
