Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has commented with irony on media reports regarding alleged kinship between US President Donald Trump and King Charles III, as well as the president's purported interest in Buckingham Palace.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Zakharova discussed the matter during an interview with Sputnik Radio.

The diplomat touched upon reports concerning US President Donald Trump's comments about residing in Buckingham Palace, jokingly stating that "someone in Greenland is breathing easier now." She further noted that certain public statements are no longer perceived merely as jokes but are increasingly viewed as claims with political significance. Zakharova pointed out that such remarks are interpreted differently, with some viewing them as serious intentions.

Referencing literature, the spokesperson jokingly suggested that "Buckingham Palace could be made more compact."

The exchange occurs as King Charles III and Queen Camilla conduct a state visit to Washington. The visit is intended to strengthen the "special relationship" between London and Washington. This diplomatic tradition, which underpins the strategic alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States, remains a cornerstone of Western geopolitical cooperation, particularly during the current administration of US President Donald Trump.
