Lavrov: Fars körfəzi böhranı böyük müharibəyə çevrilə bilər

The crisis in the Persian Gulf is showing signs of escalating into a broader, large-scale conflict, according to Russian officials.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made these remarks during the General Meeting of the Russian International Affairs Council. Lavrov emphasized that the current trajectory of regional instability is increasingly being characterized by some observers as a precursor to a "new world war."

Lavrov stated that the United States and Israel are actively attempting to provoke Arab states in the Persian Gulf against Iran. He noted that these efforts are aimed at preventing the normalization of relations between Iran and its neighbors, specifically seeking to pit members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) against the Islamic Republic. The Foreign Minister underscored that Moscow views the use of military force against civilians and civilian infrastructure in either Iran or GCC member states as unacceptable.

In light of the rising tensions, Lavrov reaffirmed that Moscow remains ready to provide mediation and other forms of assistance to return the situation to a political and diplomatic track. The Persian Gulf region remains a critical hub for global energy security, and any significant military escalation could have profound impacts on international oil markets and maritime trade routes. Historically, Russia has sought to position itself as a balanced power in the Middle East, maintaining ties with both Tehran and various Arab capitals to bolster its influence in regional security architectures.
