Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev has received a delegation led by Kathryne Bomberger, Director-General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), who is currently on a visit to Azerbaijan.
This was reported to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Prosecutor General's Office.
During the meeting, Kamran Aliyev highlighted the productive cooperation established between the Prosecutor General's Office and the Commission since 2023. He emphasized that the Commission's work addresses a highly sensitive issue, noting that ensuring the exchange of information regarding missing persons is vital for upholding the rights of their families. This humanitarian issue remains under the special attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev.
Kamran Aliyev briefed the delegation on the ongoing efforts to locate mass graves containing the remains of individuals who were subjected to torture and killed, as well as the progress made in identifying the discovered remains.
Expressing her gratitude for the reception, Kathryne Bomberger commended the high level of organization in the collection and exchange of data on missing persons in Azerbaijan, expressing satisfaction with the current state of cooperation. The delegation also provided details regarding the newly developed Data Management System for missing persons, leading to an exchange of views on the system's capabilities and potential improvements. The parties reached an agreement to organize mutual study visits and facilitate the exchange of professional experience.
The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is a treaty-based intergovernmental organization that addresses the issue of persons missing as a result of armed conflict, human rights abuses, and other disasters. Azerbaijan's collaboration with the ICMP is a critical component of the country's broader efforts to document war crimes committed during the occupation of its territories and to provide closure to the families of victims.
