Iran has announced that all vessels intending to transit through the Strait of Hormuz must now register with the newly established "Persian Gulf Waterway Management Authority."

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a formal statement regarding these new transit requirements.

The statement mandates that all ship owners and captains must submit requests through the system created by the "Persian Gulf Waterway Management Authority" to obtain official transit clearance. The authority will review these applications, and permission will be granted only to those vessels whose requests are approved.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a vital artery for global energy supplies. Following the escalation of regional tensions, including the conflict that began on February 28 involving strikes on Iran, the country temporarily closed the strait and implemented strict monitoring measures, including the use of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles against unauthorized vessels. Iranian officials have since indicated that a draft law is being prepared for the parliament to formalize a "safe passage" fee for transit through the strait, which is expected to be voted on in the near future. The establishment of the "Persian Gulf Waterway Management Authority" last month is part of this broader initiative to regulate maritime traffic and implement these new fee structures.
