The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that it launched missile strikes against US military bases in the region, following reported incidents involving US assets in the Persian Gulf.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the IRGC stated that after an initial confrontation near Sirik and Qeshm Island, it targeted US military bases with its Air Force missiles. The IRGC claimed that earlier this morning, two US tankers attempted to illegally exit the Strait of Hormuz. Following a warning, one was intercepted and halted, while other vessels reportedly retreated.
The IRGC statement further alleged that following this incident, US unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) struck a communication tower on Qeshm Island and another in Sirik with two projectiles. In retaliation for what it termed "US aggression," the IRGC reported that it launched ballistic missiles at the Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait and key facilities belonging to the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
This escalation occurs against a backdrop of long-standing geopolitical friction in the Persian Gulf, a critical maritime chokepoint for global energy supplies. The region has frequently seen heightened military activity and diplomatic tensions between Iran and the United States, often involving maritime security, drone operations, and the presence of US military installations across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
