The application of modern teaching methods and the development of new educational materials in art education are highly commendable steps toward modernization. In recent years, the Ministry of Culture has been implementing systematic reforms in the field of art education, updating curricula for various specialties and publishing new textbooks to enhance the learning process in Azerbaijan.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that these views were expressed by Konul Huseynova, a prominent pianist, pedagogue, Doctor of Philosophy in Art History, and professor, in a statement to the media. She emphasized that adopting new approaches to art education has become a necessity in the current cultural landscape.

"Unfortunately, for many years, there was no conceptual approach to the development of this field. Significant work is now being done to implement teaching methods that meet modern requirements. In this regard, I would like to highlight the 'Little Pianist' textbook, prepared for the 1st and 2nd grades of art schools at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture. This new publication stands out for its relevance and the presentation of new methods for solving scientific and pedagogical tasks. The exercises and small-scale works included facilitate the formation of psychomotor skills, ensuring the systematic mastery of finger independence, coordination, and correct hand positioning," Huseynova stated.
Integration between theoretical knowledge and practical performance
Konul Huseynova noted that the structure of the textbook, developed by professional experts, is based on the consistent mastery of musical notation, rhythmic-intonational expressiveness, and tonal relationships. This approach ensures a seamless integration between theoretical knowledge and practical performance for students in Azerbaijan.
"The presented exercises and works are built along a pedagogical line that progresses from simple to complex. This optimizes cognitive load during the training process and serves the sustainable acquisition of knowledge. The selection of repertoire was conducted considering children's psychological characteristics, attention spans, and emotional perception levels, which positively impacts learning motivation," the professor added.
New musical works with national identity
The pianist-pedagogue further noted that alongside the heritage of classical Azerbaijani and foreign composers, new works were specifically written for this manual. Contributions from renowned composers, such as Honored Art Worker and Professor Elnarə Dadaşova and Honored Art Worker Professor Ceyhun Allahverdiyev, have significantly increased the value of the "Little Pianist" textbook by introducing pieces with distinct national characteristics.
These educational reforms align with Azerbaijan's broader strategy to preserve and promote its rich musical heritage while integrating international standards into the national curriculum. By fostering a new generation of musicians through modernized resources, the Ministry of Culture aims to strengthen the country's position as a regional hub for arts and cultural excellence.
