The establishment of the "Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Bulgaria" green energy corridor is of paramount importance for ensuring regional energy security, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
As reported by Operative Information Center-OMM, Fidan made these remarks during a joint press conference with his Bulgarian counterpart, Velislava Petrova-Chamova, in Sofia.
The Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized that energy remains a cornerstone of cooperation between Turkey and Bulgaria, noting, "Our relations are expanding, diversifying, and deepening every year."
"The memorandum on cooperation in the field of transmission and trade of 'green electricity,' signed last year in Baku with the participation of Azerbaijan and Georgia, is of critical importance for energy security. Simultaneously, the memorandum on cooperation in the field of electricity and energy efficiency signed that same year is providing significant momentum to our energy collaboration with Bulgaria," Fidan stated.
It should be recalled that in April 2025, the energy ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey signed a memorandum on cooperation in the field of "green energy," officially launching the project to create the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Bulgaria energy corridor. The preparation of the project's feasibility study is scheduled to begin in 2026.
This new corridor is designed to facilitate the supply of "green electricity" from the Caspian region to Southeast Europe, specifically targeting markets in Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary, thereby strengthening the continent's energy diversification efforts.
