Kazakhstan is increasing investment in the Middle Corridor, which connects Asia and Europe. Rising cargo flows and growing demand for more diversified trade links are driving the rapid expansion of the route.
As manufacturers and logistics companies seek to diversify trade routes, the Middle Corridor is evolving from a promising alternative into one of the fastest-growing land routes between the two regions.
Kazakhstan is located at the center of this route. The country, which shares the world’s longest continuous land border with China and has direct access to the Caspian Sea, links markets with a combined population of more than 3 billion people.
This geographic advantage is supported by significant investment. Over the past seven years, Kazakhstan has invested about $35 billion in transport infrastructure to handle growing international trade volumes and strengthen the resilience of Eurasian supply chains.
Expanding capacity on the Caspian Sea is also part of these efforts. Kazakhstan previously announced plans to increase the total capacity of its seaports to 30 million tons.
Modernization of loading facilities and access bridges at the Port of Kuryk has already been completed. The work reduced processing times by one-third for rail ferries and by about half for vehicle ferries.
Alongside expanding physical infrastructure, Kazakhstan is focusing on digitizing transport routes and managing cargo movement across international logistics networks.
Taizhanov stressed the importance of creating a digital map of transport routes. The proposed system is expected to consolidate information on transport infrastructure, logistics chains and key parameters of cargo flows along international transport corridors.
As demand for alternative trade routes between Asia and Europe grows, Kazakhstan aims to increase cargo volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route to 10 million tons.
