Avropa İttifaqına üzvlük: Kallas Ermənistanın perspektivlərindən danışıb

Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has addressed Armenia's prospects for joining the European Union (EU) during the European Political Community summit held in Yerevan.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Kallas emphasized that the decision on this matter must be made by Yerevan itself. She noted that the European perspective is currently on the table, adding that the country is set to hold elections in one month. These comments come as Armenia explores closer ties with Western institutions, a move that has drawn significant attention from regional stakeholders including the United States, where the administration of US President Donald Trump continues to monitor geopolitical shifts in the South Caucasus.

Previously, Armenia's Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan remarked that the government is realistic about the accession process, stating they are not "naive enough" to believe the republic will become an EU member by 2028 or 2030. Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Overchuk warned Yerevan to consider that the EU has evolved into a "military-political bloc" with an aggressive stance toward Russia. During an April 1 meeting in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that while Russia remains calm regarding Yerevan's discussions with the EU, simultaneous membership in both the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is impossible. Pashinyan acknowledged the incompatibility of the two unions but stated that Armenia has not yet reached the point where a final choice is mandatory.
