Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has received the newly appointed Ambassador of India to Azerbaijan, Abhay Kumar.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) informed Operative Information Center-OMM that the meeting focused on the current state and development prospects of relations between Azerbaijan and India.
The parties noted that the mechanism of political consultations between the respective foreign ministries would be beneficial for discussing cooperation issues as well as addressing matters where the two countries hold differing views. During the meeting, it was emphasized that historical ties form the foundation of bilateral relations. Both officials expressed satisfaction with the existence of direct flights and the ongoing development of cooperation in the fields of tourism and education.
Regarding energy cooperation, it was highlighted that the participation of India's "ONGC Videsh" company in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil fields and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline remains a key pillar of bilateral economic relations. Furthermore, the officials expressed concern over the current tensions in the Middle East. Ambassador Abhay Kumar conveyed his country's deep gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for the support provided during the evacuation of Indian citizens from Iranian territory.
Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the ambassador on his new appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission. Ambassador Abhay Kumar thanked the minister for the warm reception and emphasized his commitment to contributing to the expansion of Azerbaijan-India relations across all sectors during his tenure.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and India were established in 1992, shortly after Azerbaijan regained its independence. Over the decades, the two nations have built a multifaceted relationship, particularly in the energy sector, where India remains one of the largest buyers of Azerbaijani crude oil. This latest meeting underscores Baku's commitment to maintaining balanced diplomatic channels and fostering economic partnerships within the framework of its independent foreign policy.
