Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, have held an expanded meeting in Baku to discuss the multifaceted cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the sides engaged in comprehensive discussions covering all aspects of Azerbaijan-EU relations. The agenda included political dialogue, legal and institutional cooperation, and future prospects for developing the bilateral partnership. Special attention was paid to energy cooperation, highlighting Azerbaijan's role as a reliable supplier contributing to Europe's energy security, as well as joint initiatives in the field of renewable energy.
The discussions also encompassed trade and investment, economic diversification, digitalization, innovation, and industrial cooperation. Both officials emphasized the strategic importance of transport and logistics links, particularly the development of the Middle Corridor and regional infrastructure projects. Furthermore, the meeting addressed regional and international security, the post-conflict situation in the region, reconstruction and restoration efforts in liberated territories, humanitarian demining activities, and the ongoing normalization process in the South Caucasus.
This high-level visit underscores the growing significance of Azerbaijan-EU relations amid shifting regional and global dynamics. As a strategic energy partner for Europe, Azerbaijan plays a pivotal role in the Southern Gas Corridor, which has become essential for the continent's energy diversification. The visit of Kaja Kallas, who also serves as Vice-President of the European Commission, reflects the EU's commitment to deepening engagement with Baku on security, connectivity, and economic stability in the Caspian region.
Prior to the expanded talks, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and High Representative Kaja Kallas held a private one-on-one meeting to discuss sensitive diplomatic issues and the broader geopolitical landscape. The MFA stated on its "X" account that the visit provides a vital opportunity to expand cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests, aiming to ensure sustainable peace and stability in the region.
