Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas have held a meeting in an expanded format in Baku.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan, the sides conducted comprehensive discussions covering all dimensions of the relationship between Azerbaijan and the European Union. The agenda included political dialogue, legal and institutional cooperation, as well as the future development prospects of the bilateral partnership.
Special attention during the meeting was paid to energy cooperation. The parties emphasized Azerbaijan's role as a reliable supplier contributing to Europe's energy security, alongside discussions on collaboration in the field of renewable energy. Furthermore, the talks covered trade and investment, economic diversification, digitalization, innovation, and industrial cooperation, as well as transport and logistics links. The development of the Middle Corridor and regional infrastructure projects remained a primary focus.
The MFA reported that the officials also discussed regional and international security issues, including the post-conflict situation, reconstruction and restoration work in the liberated territories, humanitarian demining activities, and the ongoing normalization process in the South Caucasus. The importance of ensuring sustainable peace and stability in the region was strongly emphasized.
This visit underscores the significance of Azerbaijan–EU relations and dialogue against the backdrop of changing regional and global dynamics. Azerbaijan continues to be a strategic partner for the EU, particularly following the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy, which aims to enhance energy diversification and security for the European continent. The meeting provides an opportunity to expand cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests.
