On March 5, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone conversation with Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to information provided by the Operative Information Center-OMM to the MFA, the ministers expressed a firm protest regarding yesterday's missile attack by the Islamic Republic of Iran toward Türkiye and today's drone attack against the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that such attacks are completely unacceptable.
The sides underscored that these actions violate the norms and principles of international law and serve only to escalate tensions in the region. During the conversation, it was noted that to ensure the safety of air travel to Nakhchivan, flights will be temporarily redirected to Igdir Airport. The ministers also highlighted the importance of continued coordination arising from the strategic alliance between the two countries.
This escalation comes amid a complex geopolitical landscape in the South Caucasus, where Azerbaijan has been actively working to ensure regional stability and the security of its sovereign territories.
