Jan-Noel Barro: Sülhməramlılara hücum müharibə cinayətidir

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has characterized the targeting of United Nations peacekeepers as a war crime following a deadly incident in southern Lebanon.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, Barrot emphasized that such an attack on UN personnel represents not only a violation of international law but an assault on the entire global community. French President Emmanuel Macron has attributed responsibility for the strike to the Hezbollah group, calling for accountability regarding the incident.

The attack took place on April 18 in the southern region of Lebanon. One soldier was killed instantly at the scene, while another, who was evacuated to France with severe injuries, passed away on April 22. Two other soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries during the assault. The Lebanese Armed Forces have announced that they are conducting a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances of the event and to apprehend those responsible.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has been operating in the region for decades to maintain stability along the border. Under international humanitarian law, deliberate attacks against peacekeeping missions are classified as war crimes. This incident underscores the volatile security situation in the region and the increasing risks faced by international personnel deployed to monitor ceasefire agreements and support local stability.
