A total of 16 Azerbaijani citizens, including seven women and nine children, were repatriated from Syria on July 18-19, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the repatriation process began with the identification of the citizens and the verification of their Azerbaijani citizenship. A dedicated working group, composed of representatives from relevant state agencies responsible for repatriating citizens facing crisis situations abroad, was deployed to Syria to conduct initial medical and psychological assessments of the individuals.
The operation was coordinated by the Azerbaijani embassies in Syria and Turkey, as well as the Consulate General in Istanbul. These diplomatic missions facilitated the issuance of return certificates and provided the necessary travel arrangements to ensure the citizens' safe arrival in Azerbaijan. The government has announced that comprehensive measures for the social rehabilitation and reintegration of these citizens into society are currently being implemented.
The Azerbaijani government remains committed to continuing efforts to repatriate its citizens who have become victims of armed conflicts in foreign territories. This initiative is part of a broader state policy aimed at protecting the rights and welfare of Azerbaijani citizens abroad, particularly those caught in humanitarian crises or conflict zones, ensuring their safe return and subsequent reintegration into the country.
