The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced the killing of Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of the Basij paramilitary force, during a targeted airstrike conducted in Tehran.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the IDF military press service issued an official statement regarding the operation. "Based on precise intelligence, the air force carried out a targeted strike in the center of Tehran yesterday, killing Gholamreza Soleimani, who has served as the Basij commander for the past six years," the statement emphasized.
The Basij unit is reported to have played a primary role in the suppression of internal protests, including the execution of mass arrests and the use of force against demonstrators. As a paramilitary volunteer militia under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Basij is a key pillar of the Iranian security apparatus. This operation in the heart of the Iranian capital signifies a major development in the ongoing regional security dynamics between Israel and Iran.
