Israeli aviation has carried out a strike on the Aishat-Bakkar neighborhood located in the center of the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that a source within the Lebanese Civil Defense Service provided this information to the TASS agency.
According to the report, missiles struck a multi-story residential building, causing it to catch fire. Firefighting and emergency medical teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. Sources suggest that the target of the attack is believed to be a high-ranking member of the Hezbollah armed group. Residents of the Aishat-Bakkar neighborhood were reportedly not evacuated prior to the strike. The area is currently housing a large number of displaced persons who have recently fled from southern Lebanon due to the ongoing hostilities.
The strike follows an announcement by the Israeli military on March 10 regarding the elimination of a commander from Hezbollah's "Nasir" unit. This latest operation in central Beirut marks a significant escalation in the conflict, as strikes move deeper into the capital's residential districts. The ongoing confrontation between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah movement has intensified significantly over the past months, leading to widespread displacement and a growing humanitarian crisis in the region.
International observers note that the targeting of urban centers in Lebanon reflects a shift in military strategy as Israel seeks to neutralize Hezbollah's leadership infrastructure. The conflict remains a focal point of regional instability, drawing concern from global powers, including the United States under the administration of US President Donald Trump, as diplomatic efforts continue to seek a de-escalation of violence along the Blue Line.
