A Spanish military aircraft has evacuated 171 Spanish citizens who wished to leave the region due to the military situation resulting from strikes by US and Israeli forces against Iran.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media outlets, that the evacuation was organized as regional stability remains volatile.
The aircraft, which departed from Oman, landed today at a military airbase near Madrid. Spanish authorities have been facilitating the evacuation of their citizens using both military assets and regular commercial flights where available.
The move comes amid significant diplomatic friction between Madrid and Washington. The Spanish government had previously refused to grant permission for US military forces to utilize two of its domestic military bases for operations against Iran. In response to this refusal, US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of trade with Spain, further escalating the geopolitical standoff.
The evacuation highlights the growing concerns over security in the Middle East following the recent military escalations. Oman has frequently served as a neutral transit hub for diplomatic and humanitarian efforts in the region, providing a safe corridor for foreign nationals during periods of heightened conflict. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of its remaining citizens in the affected areas.
