The Ras Tanura oil refinery, owned by Saudi Arabia's state oil giant Saudi Aramco, has suspended operations following a strike by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). According to reports, the facility located in the city of Ras Tanura was targeted in the early hours of the day.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Reuters, that the situation is currently under control. Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage caused by the Iranian drone strike, though no immediate casualties have been reported.
The Ras Tanura complex, situated on the coast of the Persian Gulf, is one of the largest oil refineries in the Middle East. It possesses a daily processing capacity of 550,000 barrels and serves as a primary terminal for the export of Saudi oil. Such incidents in the region often lead to increased volatility in global energy markets, as Ras Tanura is a critical hub for the world's petroleum supply chain. This event follows a series of regional tensions involving energy infrastructure in the Gulf.
