The State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan has successfully prevented a large-scale attempt to smuggle narcotics into the country. The operation took place at the Shahtakhti customs post, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Nakhchivan Main Customs Office.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, customs officials conducted a thorough inspection of a vehicle transporting "ready-to-eat food products" from Iran to Germany, which was transiting through the territory of Azerbaijan. During the examination, which utilized stationary X-ray equipment and a detailed physical search, officers discovered narcotics concealed within 1,218 plastic containers of canned rice.
The total net weight of the seized heroin was recorded at 112 kilograms and 761.757 grams. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
Azerbaijan frequently intercepts illicit drug shipments due to its strategic location along major transit routes connecting the Middle East with Europe. The State Customs Committee maintains rigorous border control measures to combat transnational organized crime and prevent the illegal trafficking of controlled substances through the country.
