Iran and Russia have conducted joint naval exercises in the Gulf of Oman and the northern part of the Indian Ocean to enhance maritime security and operational coordination. Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing information published by The Hill, that the maneuvers focused on improving tactical cooperation between the two navies.
According to official reports, Russian sailors worked alongside their Iranian counterparts to execute maneuvers designed to refine joint response capabilities and facilitate the exchange of military expertise. Rear Admiral Hassan Maqsudlu of the Iranian Navy stated that the drills are aimed at strengthening regional security and fostering sustainable maritime cooperation between the two nations. Prior to the joint maneuvers, Iran also conducted individual military exercises, which included the launch of five missiles toward the Strait of Hormuz.
This military activity coincides with recent firm statements from US President Donald Trump regarding regional security and international agreements. US President Donald Trump has recently emphasized a strict timeline for Iran to enter into a new agreement, granting a maximum of 10 to 15 days for negotiations. The Gulf of Oman remains a critical strategic waterway for global energy supplies, and such joint exercises between Moscow and Tehran underscore the evolving geopolitical landscape and the deepening defense partnership between the two countries in the face of international pressure.
