Ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz are continuing, according to Iranian officials. The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed the diplomatic engagement.
Baghaei noted that the bilateral meetings, which commenced in Tehran on July 24-25, remain active. He further highlighted that a high-level discussion between the foreign ministers of the two nations took place on July 29 to address regional maritime security.
The spokesperson emphasized that discussions between Iran and Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz have been a long-standing agenda item and are independent of recent escalations or specific threats to close the waterway. Baghaei further alleged that disruptions to maritime traffic and concerns regarding the safety of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz are direct consequences of the naval blockade imposed by the United States on Iran.
