Iran's military leadership has leveled serious accusations against the United States, alleging acts of "maritime piracy" in the Sea of Oman.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command stated on Monday that US forces targeted an Iranian merchant vessel, leading to a significant escalation in regional tensions. A spokesperson for the command claimed that US forces opened fire on the ship, disabled its navigation systems, and deployed marines in what Tehran describes as an illegal operation. The statement emphasized that the Iranian armed forces remain prepared for any confrontation and will respond to what they termed "armed attacks" by the administration of US President Donald Trump.
The Sea of Oman is a critical maritime corridor, serving as a primary route for global oil shipments and connecting the Arabian Sea with the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions in these waters have frequently spiked due to competing military interests and geopolitical friction. This latest incident follows a series of maritime disputes in the region, where both Tehran and Washington have increased their naval presence to secure strategic interests and shipping lanes.
The Iranian military leadership further noted that such actions undermine international maritime law and threaten the safety of commercial navigation. As of now, the White House has not issued an official response to the specific allegations regarding the incident in the Sea of Oman, though the region remains under heavy surveillance by international coalition forces.
