Iran intends to accelerate the implementation of joint infrastructure projects with Russia once the current regional situation stabilizes, according to the Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the ambassador emphasized that bilateral relations remain active despite external challenges.
"Our goal is to ensure that joint projects are not halted, and we plan to expedite their implementation as soon as conditions allow. For instance, work at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is currently ongoing," Jalali stated.
The ambassador highlighted that Tehran and Moscow are actively negotiating several key economic and infrastructure initiatives, with practical steps being taken toward their realization. A primary focus is the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway line, a critical segment of the International North-South Transport Corridor. Jalali confirmed that both parties have reached an agreement on the contract for this project and are preparing for its formal signing.
Furthermore, the diplomat noted that energy cooperation remains a priority. Discussions are underway regarding the transit of natural gas from Russia to Iran, which includes the development of the necessary infrastructure to facilitate these energy flows.
The International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is a 7,200-kilometer-long multi-mode network of ship, rail, and road routes designed to move freight between India, Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Central Asia. The Rasht-Astara railway is considered the "missing link" of this corridor, which, once completed, will significantly reduce transit times and costs for trade between South Asia and Northern Europe.
