A senior Russian official has criticized Western powers regarding the escalating situation in the Middle East, highlighting a perceived lack of influence from European institutions.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Kirill Dmitriev, a special representative of the Russian President, stated that the ongoing conflict in the region has exposed the fundamental weaknesses of NATO, the European Union, and the United Kingdom. Writing on the X social media platform, Dmitriev noted that the Iran crisis further underscores significant policy rifts between European nations and the United States.

In a related development, US President Donald Trump has indicated that a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains a possibility. According to the US President, the implementation of such a truce is contingent upon Tehran's agreement to ensure the unhindered passage of maritime traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most vital energy transit points, with approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passing through the waterway daily. Tensions in the region have historically led to fluctuations in global energy markets, prompting international calls for diplomatic de-escalation. The current geopolitical friction comes at a time when Azerbaijan continues to advocate for regional stability and the principles of international law to ensure economic security across the broader Eurasian space.
