The Jordanian Armed Forces have announced that their air defense systems successfully intercepted and neutralized five missiles launched from Iran toward the country's territory.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Jordanian "Petra" news agency, a military official from the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces confirmed that the incident occurred on June 10. The air defense systems engaged and destroyed the projectiles as they approached the Al-Azraq airbase, located in the Zarqa Governorate.

The official stated that there were no casualties or material damage resulting from the interception. Engineering and explosive ordnance disposal teams were dispatched to the site to clear debris and ensure the area was secure.

The military spokesperson emphasized that the armed forces are closely monitoring regional developments and remain in a state of high combat readiness to protect Jordan's airspace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The official reiterated that any violation of the country's airspace will not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the strike, alleging that it targeted an airbase housing US military personnel with long-range, solid-fuel missiles. The IRGC asserted that the missiles struck four key targets, including hangars housing F-35 fighter jets and a primary command-and-control center.

The IRGC further declared its readiness to deliver a "crushing and decisive" response to any potential future US military operations, holding Washington responsible for the escalation of tensions in the region.

This escalation follows recent heightened friction in the Middle East. Previously, the US Central Command announced it would conduct strikes against Iran in retaliation for the downing of an American Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump blamed Iran for that incident, leading to Tehran's subsequent retaliatory missile strikes on US military bases in the region.

The Al-Azraq airbase is a strategic facility in Jordan, often utilized for regional security operations and joint military exercises. The facility's proximity to regional conflict zones makes it a focal point for air defense monitoring, especially amid the ongoing geopolitical instability involving Iran and Western powers in the Middle East.
