Indonesia has indefinitely postponed its plan to deploy military units to the Gaza Strip amid the deepening regional crisis. Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Antara news agency, reports that a spokesperson for the Indonesian presidency announced the decision during a press conference in Jakarta.
The spokesperson noted that all preparations regarding the deployment of troops to Gaza are currently on hold. The primary reason for the delay was cited as the sharply increasing tension across the region, which complicates the safety and logistics of the mission.
Previously, Indonesia had declared its intention to prepare approximately 8,000 troops by the end of June to support the International Stability Forces (ISF), established under US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace initiative. This move was part of a broader international effort to maintain order and facilitate humanitarian aid in the conflict-affected territory.
The initiative follows significant diplomatic developments in late 2025. On September 23, 2025, eight Muslim leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, met with US President Donald Trump to discuss achieving a ceasefire in Gaza. Following this meeting, US President Donald Trump officially announced a "Peace Plan." As the first phase of this plan, a ceasefire was declared through a joint declaration signed by Turkiye, the United States, Qatar, and Egypt at the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit on October 13, 2025.
Indonesia, as the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation, has long been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause and frequently contributes to United Nations peacekeeping missions globally. The potential deployment to Gaza would represent one of Jakarta's most significant regional interventions, reflecting its growing role in international mediation and security efforts under the framework of the global peace initiatives led by US President Donald Trump.
