President Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Dan Jorgensen, the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, on March 3. The delegation is visiting Baku to participate in the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Dan Jorgensen expressed that the speech delivered by the head of state at the opening of the ministerial meetings made a deep impression on the delegation. Highlighting the critical importance of the event, Jorgensen emphasized that partnership with Azerbaijan is of great significance to the European Union and expressed a strong interest in expanding this cooperation. He further conveyed his gratitude for the ongoing collaborative efforts between the two parties.
President Ilham Aliyev referenced the visits of Kaya Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Marta Kos, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, to Azerbaijan last year. The President characterized the active engagement of the respective delegations as a clear demonstration of the mutual will to deepen cooperation in energy and connectivity sectors. During the meeting, the sides discussed Azerbaijan's vital contribution to Europe's energy security, the expansion of the geography of Azerbaijani gas exports in the European market, and the future prospects for cooperation in natural gas and green energy.
The Southern Gas Corridor remains a strategic pillar for diversifying energy routes to Europe, with Azerbaijan playing a central role as a reliable supplier. In recent years, the partnership has evolved beyond traditional fossil fuels to include ambitious renewable energy initiatives. Azerbaijan aims to become a major exporter of green electricity to the European Union, leveraging its significant wind and solar potential, particularly in the liberated territories and the Caspian Sea region, to support the global transition toward sustainable energy.
