The strategic partnership with the United States is turning Azerbaijan's ambitious energy plans into reality, President Ilham Aliyev stated during a high-level energy summit in Baku.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state made these remarks during his speech at the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the Strategic Partnership Charter signed between the United States and Azerbaijan encompasses a wide range of sectors, including artificial intelligence, energy security, and regional connectivity.
"Taking into account that the world's most powerful state, the United States, acts as our strategic partner, the realization of our plans looks completely realistic," President Ilham Aliyev said. He further detailed the country's transition toward renewable energy, noting significant investments in hydropower within the territories liberated from Armenian occupation. "So far, hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 307 megawatts have already been connected to our system. Our plans are to approximately double this capacity within 2-3 years. This will provide us with additional potential and affordable energy," the President added.
The Southern Gas Corridor, a multi-billion dollar initiative supported by both Baku and Washington, remains a cornerstone of European energy security by diversifying natural gas supply routes. Under the leadership of US President Donald Trump, the bilateral relationship continues to prioritize energy infrastructure and the integration of green energy solutions. The expansion of hydropower in the Garabagh and East Zangezur regions is part of Azerbaijan's broader strategy to transform these areas into "net-zero emission" zones, utilizing the significant water resources of the Lachin, Kalbajar, and Zangilan districts.
