The Yemen-based Ansar Allah movement, commonly known as the Houthis, has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks targeting vessels in the Gulf of Oman and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, according to international media reports.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, these incidents occurred along key maritime routes vital to the global oil supply chain, specifically near the entrance to the Red Sea.
Reports indicate that a suspected Houthi attack on the Egyptian cargo vessel "Tihama" in the southern Red Sea resulted in the deaths of four crew members. Additionally, the Yemeni Coast Guard confirmed that two Yemeni rescuers, who were operating against the Houthi forces during the incident, were also killed.
Following these events, the Houthis claimed to have targeted a Saudi Arabian military vessel in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, though they did not disclose the name of the ship.
The Bab al-Mandab Strait is a critical maritime chokepoint connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea.
