Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, Hikmat Hajiyev, held a meeting with D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Secretary-General Sohail Mahmood, Director Mustafa Ozcan, and Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General Muhammad Bilal Khan on the sidelines of the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum.

According to the "Operative Information Center-OMM", the discussions centered on the future prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation.

Hikmat Hajiyev highlighted that the establishment of the D-8 Media Excellence Center in Azerbaijan was initiated by President Ilham Aliyev. He noted that the inaugural D-8 Media Forum, held in Azerbaijan last year, served as the catalyst for this initiative, and the launch of the Media Excellence Center represents a logical progression of these efforts.

In response, Sohail Mahmood extended his congratulations on the establishment of the D-8 Media Excellence Center in Azerbaijan and expressed his gratitude for the initiative.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized that the Center will serve as a vital platform for the professional development of media representatives from D-8 member states. It is expected to facilitate discussions on emerging challenges in the media landscape, including the integration of artificial intelligence, as well as provide training and experience-sharing opportunities to combat disinformation.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8, is an organization for development cooperation among Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Türkiye. Azerbaijan's active engagement with the D-8 reflects the country's broader foreign policy strategy to strengthen ties with Islamic nations and promote regional economic and media integration.
