The Lebanese Shia organization Hezbollah has addressed the escalating political situation in the country, warning that all scenarios, including internal conflict, remain on the table.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Mahmoud Qummati, Deputy Chairman of Hezbollah's Political Council, discussed the current crisis in an interview with Vesti.
Qummati stated that while Hezbollah is currently maintaining a patient stance toward the Lebanese government, the trajectory of events makes every outcome possible. "To be honest, all options are possible," he noted, adding that the organization is closely monitoring government decisions and foreign influences, including those from the United States.
The warning follows a significant move by the Lebanese government on March 2, which officially banned Hezbollah's armed activities within the country. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has demanded that the organization surrender its weapons to the Lebanese army and restrict its operations strictly to the political sphere. This decision was prompted by Hezbollah's continued rocket fire into northern Israel, which has triggered retaliatory strikes and heightened the risk of a broader regional war.
Lebanon is currently grappling with one of the world's worst economic crises in decades, compounded by a long-standing political vacuum and the absence of a fully functioning presidency. The tension between the central government and Hezbollah—which operates as a powerful "state within a state" with its own military wing—has historically been a primary driver of instability in the Mediterranean nation. International observers fear that a direct confrontation between the Lebanese Armed Forces and Hezbollah could plunge the country back into a civil war similar to the conflict that devastated the nation between 1975 and 1990.
