Hakan Fidan: ABŞ İrana qoşun yeridə bilər

The United States may deploy troops to certain Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf if the current regional conflict continues to escalate, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated during a live broadcast on the A Haber television channel.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the Turkish top diplomat highlighted that various scenarios regarding a potential US military intervention are currently on the agenda. "In the event of a prolonged conflict, versions of the US deploying troops to an island belonging to Iran in the Persian Gulf are being discussed," Fidan emphasized. He further noted that Iran has secured a strategic advantage by maintaining the capability to block the Strait of Hormuz.

Fidan suggested that a strategic move by the US could involve seizing an Iranian island responsible for oil and gas exports as a countermeasure. "The warring parties use such tactics as a method of pressure to strengthen their hand. This is precisely why Turkey is working to achieve a ceasefire between the parties," the Foreign Minister added, underscoring Ankara's diplomatic efforts to prevent further destabilization.

The Persian Gulf remains one of the world's most critical maritime corridors, with the Strait of Hormuz serving as a transit point for approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption. Tensions in the region have historically impacted global energy markets and maritime security. Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, Washington has maintained a firm stance on regional security, emphasizing the protection of international shipping lanes and the containment of geopolitical threats in the Middle East.
