Georgia's State Security Service has launched an official investigation into the widespread power outages that occurred across the country on July 24 and 25. The blackouts, which affected the capital, Tbilisi, and several other regions, have prompted authorities to examine the possibility of deliberate interference.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the State Security Service confirmed that the investigation is being conducted under the article of sabotage. This legal provision addresses actions intended to disrupt the normal operations of state enterprises or critical infrastructure, or to damage or destroy assets with the aim of threatening Georgia's national interests.

The State Security Service has stated that it will provide updates to the public as the investigation progresses. These power disruptions have caused significant concern regarding the security of Georgia's energy grid, which is vital for the country's economic stability and public services. Such incidents are rare in Georgia, and the involvement of the security services underscores the gravity with which the government is treating the situation, particularly given the potential for critical infrastructure to be targeted.
