US President Donald Trump's special envoys, Jared Kushner and Steven Witkoff, have announced progress in negotiations regarding the settlement of the Ukraine conflict following their meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the envoys arrived in Kyiv after holding a three-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the previous day.
Witkoff stated that they heard new ideas during the Moscow discussions, though he did not disclose specific details. He expressed optimism that a new round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, mediated by the United States, would be announced in the near future. "I think we made great progress in Moscow," Witkoff remarked, adding that both sides are prepared to continue talks.
President Zelensky described the meeting with Kushner and Witkoff as substantive, affirming Ukraine's readiness for trilateral negotiations involving Russia. The discussions also covered the supply of air defense systems to Ukraine and energy support ahead of the winter season. Furthermore, the parties addressed security and economic guarantees for Kyiv, as well as potential post-war social assistance programs.
The US representatives also held several hours of meetings with other Ukrainian officials. The final stage of the discussions in Kyiv was joined by national security advisors from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, highlighting the international focus on finding a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict.
These diplomatic efforts come at a critical juncture in the conflict, as international stakeholders seek to establish a framework for de-escalation.
