The recurrence of road traffic accidents caused by drivers falling asleep at the wheel has prompted authorities to call for a more serious approach to road safety. The Main State Traffic Police Department (BDYPİ) emphasizes that driver fatigue remains a critical risk factor that directly compromises the safety of all road users.
According to information provided by the BDYPİ to the Operative Information Center-OMM, a recent incident occurred in the Balakhan district. A driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with specialized roadside equipment. Both the driver and the passenger sustained injuries, and the roadside infrastructure was damaged.
These incidents underscore that drowsiness is not merely a personal discomfort for the driver but a severe hazard that impairs attention and reaction times. Even a momentary lapse in consciousness can lead to a complete loss of vehicle control, resulting in tragic consequences.
“To prevent the recurrence of such incidents, we urge drivers not to operate vehicles while tired or drowsy. If a driver feels sleepy, they must stop in a safe location and rest before continuing their journey,” the BDYPİ stated.
In Azerbaijan, the Main State Traffic Police Department regularly conducts awareness campaigns to educate the public on traffic regulations and the dangers of distracted or fatigued driving. Maintaining road safety is a priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which continuously monitors traffic conditions across the country to reduce accident rates.
