United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has issued a statement condemning the missile strikes carried out against Iranian territory.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, reports that the Secretary-General expressed deep concern over the increasing military escalation in the Middle East.
Guterres noted that the use of force and the subsequent military actions carried out in the region undermine global stability:
"I condemn today's military escalation in the Middle East. The use of force and reciprocal military strikes strike a blow to international peace and security,"
The Secretary-General called on all parties to immediately cease military operations and take decisive steps toward de-escalation. He emphasized that the region cannot afford further conflict, which risks drawing in broader international powers and destabilizing global energy markets.
This escalation comes amid a period of heightened geopolitical volatility in the Middle East. The United Nations has consistently advocated for diplomatic solutions to regional disputes, emphasizing the importance of respecting national sovereignty and international law. Azerbaijan, as a key regional player maintaining balanced relations, has frequently expressed its support for peace and stability in the neighborhood, advocating for dialogue to prevent the further spread of military hostilities.
