The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has issued a stern warning to the United States in response to Washington's ongoing restrictions on Tehran's oil exports.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Ghalibaf took to social media platform X to characterize the actions taken by Washington as acts of economic warfare, while issuing a stark warning regarding regional energy security.
"In a region where we cannot sell our oil, no one else will be able to sell oil either," Ghalibaf stated, emphasizing that pressure on Iran's energy infrastructure will not go unanswered. He further asserted that as long as Iran's own infrastructure remains under threat, other energy infrastructure facilities within the region will not be considered secure.
Ghalibaf also addressed the strategic issue of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global oil supplies. He indicated that the security of the strait is directly linked to the presence of US military forces in the region, signaling that Tehran remains resolute in its stance.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important oil transit chokepoints, with a significant portion of global petroleum consumption passing through its waters daily. Tensions between Tehran and Washington have historically fluctuated, with Iran frequently linking the security of this vital waterway to the sanctions regime imposed by the United States and the broader geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East.
