Fridrix Merz: İran hakimiyyəti danışıqlarda ABŞ-ni alçaldıb

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that the Iranian leadership "humiliated" the United States through its negotiation tactics, a comment that could further strain transatlantic relations.

The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Bloomberg, reported that the Chancellor made these remarks during a speech to students in the city of Marsberg on Monday. Merz noted that Iran conducted negotiations with Washington "very skillfully," effectively outmaneuvering American diplomats.

According to the report, Merz highlighted a specific instance where Tehran forced Washington's negotiators to travel to Islamabad, only for them to return without any tangible results. He emphasized that by doing so, the Iranian leadership "humiliated an entire nation." Bloomberg characterized the Chancellor's statement as "unusually candid," noting that such rhetoric risks widening the existing divide in transatlantic relations.

These remarks come as several European leaders continue to reassess their diplomatic and economic strategies toward US President Donald Trump. Initial attempts to secure favor have increasingly been replaced by a more cautious approach, particularly following tensions regarding the role of NATO and American influence on European domestic politics. Although Merz visited the White House in March, he has become more critical of American policy toward Iran, especially as high energy prices continue to impact the German industrial sector. This shift reflects a broader trend in European capitals seeking greater strategic autonomy amid shifting priorities in Washington.
